Review from Last Year

We ventured underground this afternoon into the 900 year old (and most haunted place) at Oxford Castle & Prison for an archaeological dig.

We were guided by Daniel Harris, prison governor of Oxford Prison from the late 1700s. Each child had their own set of tools and box to dig and sieve through. Lot of excitement with the finds from an old key to coins and pottery shards and it’s not fake either.

Everyone had their own record sheet to draw, guess what it was and date their finds. Great to have some really old coins included too.

After the dig, our guide showed us some finds form the mound and some medieval tiles and then the kids got to make their own tiles from clay. She was so engaging and great at connecting with a variety of ages.

It was really well done and very atmospheric in the crypt.
