Gaia Earth 3D Exhibition | Oxford
24 June, 2022 - 10 July, 2022
FreeThe impressive Gaia Earth exhibition has arrived in Oxford and will be at University Church of St Mary the Virgin on the High Street from 24th June to 10th July 2022. It’s free to visit and no booking in advance required.
After hearing how stunning it was at Gloucester Cathedral, I’ve been really excited about it coming to Oxford and was was of the first through the door this morning!
The touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram measures six metres in diameter and has been created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. It’s an amazing opportunity to see our planet floating in three dimensions.
The huge globe is suspended from the starry ceiling of the church and gently rotates. It’s worth taking a pew and just taking a few moments of quiet time to reflect and wonder at our earth.
A specially made surround sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones is played alongside the sculpture.
Monday – Saturday 9.30am-5pm
Sunday 12pm-5pm
The Gaia earth installation will be part of the Oxford Festival of Arts which has an Around the World in 80 Ways theme with Art and Artefacts.
