This September  the whole of New Mills is set to light up for an entire weekend by transforming the streets into magical, illuminated galleries! But your help is needed …
‘Light up New Mills’ – Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September will be a weekend of creativity that everyone can take part in by lighting up their homes, shops, gardens and businesses. Light Up New Mills will bring the spirit of the Lantern Procession into  homes with an all-people-friendly, window-display-based walking trail for people to explore on foot, to see new places, or to see familiar places in a new way.

When the festival team realised that it wasn’t going to be possible to put on the Lantern Procession this year, they knew there would be a lot of disappointed people in September. So, they put on their thinking caps came up with an idea that everyone could safely take part in that would be equally spectacular.

Here are some ideas from the festival team on how to light up and decorate your windows,  hang up your old willow and paper lanterns, turn your windows into shadow screens or works of art using coloured paper and paint. Hang up fairy lights on their own or in bottles and jars. Or just put a light in your window and you too can be part of Light Up New Mills!
