As soon as the sun shines, one of our favourite places to head is Lusso in Newbury. You’ll find this restaurant and gelateria in the quaint courtyard, Weavers Walk, just off the main shopping street in Newbury. It’s a great place to stop for lunch, dinner or their incredible gelato which you can pick up to take away. We also love that they have outside tables which are the perfect place to stop for some food in the warmer weather.
So what can you expect from the food at Lusso? Everything is prepared fresh on site including their sourdough pizzas which you will see being made in their pizza ovens right in front of you. Thie ingredients are incredibly fresh with lots of seasonal vegetables, Italian meats and, of course, plenty of cheese! My new favourite on the menu features parma ham, rocket, parmesan and a whole burrata. Absolutely divine!
They also have a pasta menu featuring freshly made pasta dishes like Creamy Pesto and Chicken Orchiette and Spicy Nduja Ravioli. There are also some burger options plus salads for a lighter meal. Pasta is served from 5pm on weekdays and all day on the weekends.
For the kids there is a full kid’s menu which is a great deal at £8.50 for a generous sized pizza and scoop of gelato (March 2025) When the restaurant is serving pasta, you can also order this from the kids menu with options like Bolognese pasta and mac and cheese. If you have more adventurous eaters then you can also order any pizza off the main menu for your kids for just a £1 surcharge,
And now to the highlight of any visit to Lusso – the gelato! This stuff is amazing and they have an ever-changing array of delicious flavours. Whenever the Kinder Bueno gelato is available, we go for this but they also have gorgeous fruit flavours too. You can get your gelato in a cone (chocolate cones available too!) or a pot. And if you happen to be passing by and fancy a scoop you can pop in and buy gelato to take away.
We love Lusso. It’s a fantastic independent restaurant run by such a friendly team who are passionate about great food. We definitely recommend a visit and there are now restaurants in both Newbury and Didcot to enjoy.
