We love Anglesey, it is such a brilliant place to holiday as a family with so much to do for children. One of our absolute favourites has to be Pili Palas. Translated from Welsh, it means the butterfly house, but wow this place all that and much more.

It is in an ideal spot for exploring, just over the Menai Bridge and only about 20 minutes from where we were staying in Beaumaris. After sorting tickets at reception, we went straight into the butterfly house. We had visited a few years ago, but there has been a lot of investment and new developments and it is even better now.

The butterfly house itself is pram and wheelchair friendly, though it is lovely and warm inside so we were soon stripping off coats. The butterflies were everywhere and it was magical to watch them fluttering around us. Our little girls were amazed, especially when one cheeky butterfly landed on my head.

From there, we explored the aviary, home to some very noisy birds, and then into the incredible reptile house with snakes, spiders and lizards. They run talks and showcases throughout the day and our girls loved the chance to meet and even touch a snake. Even our one year old joined in.

Next stop was the cafe for a much needed coffee (they serve food too), and a quick hello to the meerkats. Pili Palas has a large indoor soft play and a smaller baby soft play zone, but as the sun was shining we made our way outdoors.

We enjoyed a picnic while the girls explored the adventure playground. There has been so much investment here too and it is amazing. Alongside a traditional park, there is now a brand new adventure playground with climbing frames and brilliant ziplines that our girls absolutely loved.

Before heading home, we wandered back to the farmyard area to meet the chickens, goats, pigs and rabbits. The highlight was stopping off for cuddles with the bunnies which is always a hit with little ones.

Pili Palas is such a fun day out and so much more than just the butterflies. With animals, play areas, indoor and outdoor adventures, and plenty of space for families, it is a place we would really recommend if you are visiting Anglesey with children.
